Well… we’re going to be on the telly!
If you’d told me a few years ago that My Anxious Dog - and our lovely Bella - would be appearing on BBC One’s Escape to the Country, I’d have laughed in your face!
The whole experience has been surreal, emotional, and honestly, one of the loveliest things we’ve ever done.
Why we went on Escape to the Country
It’s no secret that the last few years have been a bit of a rollercoaster for us.
Between running My Anxious Dog, launching the first #DogsInYellow day on March 20th, navigating life after Matt’s cycling accident, and trying to figure out where we wanted to move next, it’s felt like a lot.
We knew we needed a change, but we didn’t know where to start. Every time I tried to imagine our next home, my mind just went blank.
Matt described it perfectly during filming - he said his head felt “like a jigsaw puzzle tipped out on the table with no picture on the box.” We couldn’t see what the future looked like.
So when the Escape to the Country team got in touch, it felt like the push we needed.
What it was like being on the telly
From the moment the crew arrived, they made us feel completely at ease.
They spent time with us at home before we headed to Herefordshire, filming us chatting in the garden and in the office - and of course, Bella got her moment in the spotlight too.
They were so kind and gentle with her, making sure she was happy and relaxed the whole time.
She even wore her yellow awareness gear and did a brilliant job showing what dogs in yellow are all about - dogs who just need a little space.
Sonali Shah and Jules Hudson were exactly how they come across on screen: warm, funny, and down-to-earth.
We laughed, we cried (quite a lot!), and by the end of the week it honestly felt like we were part of the Escape to the Country family.
Finding hope again
We saw four houses in total, each very different, and while none of them turned out to be the one, we did find a place that felt special - a beautiful Victorian home in the village of Wellington.
The moment we arrived, we both looked at each other and thought: “This feels right.”
Wellington completely stole our hearts, and it’s where we’re now hoping to move to one day. It gave us hope - something we hadn’t felt for a long time.
More than just finding a home
For us, this was never just about bricks and mortar. It was about showing what’s possible, even after life throws you a curveball.
And it was about giving the Dogs in Yellow message the visibility it deserves - helping people understand that when you see a dog in yellow, it simply means they need a bit of space.
If our story helps even one more person stop and think, “Oh, that’s why that dog’s wearing yellow,” then it’s been worth it.
